The spectacular 2013 season begins with the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein and one of the world’s most beloved musicals, THE SOUND OF MUSIC (June 11 – 23), directed by James Brennan. When a novice nun proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain. The show’s finale is one of the most thrilling and inspirational ever presented in the theatre.

Following one classic with another, there truly is no place like home as the greatest family musical of all time lands on the stage of North Shore Music Theatre, THE WIZARD OF OZ (July 16 – 28) live on stage, directed by Joel Ferrell. You will be swept away by our twister of a tale celebrating the iconic 1939 MGM film. The entire family will be captivated as they travel down the Yellow Brick Road and beyond with Dorothy, Toto and their friends the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow in this lavish production, featuring magical special effects, dazzling choreography and the classic songs audiences love.

The summer will end with a celebration of the human and feline spirit, CATS (August 20 – September 1), directed and choreographed by Richard Stafford. Written by famed composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber and based on T.S. Eliot’s ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats,’ this long running musical remains a favorite with audiences nationwide. CATS tells the story of the Jellicles, a tribe of cats who assemble for their annual junkyard ball where they announce the cat that will be reborn. The show’s appeal is clearly universal, as it has been translated into over 20 languages. As time has proven, CATS is truly now and forever.

It will be anything but a drag when the notorious and dangerous Cagelles take over the stage this autumn when NSMT presents Jerry Herman’s modern family musical, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES (September 24 – October 6) directed by Charles Repole and choreographed by Michael Lichtefeld. Before there was the popular movie The Birdcage, there was the eleven time Tony Award-winning, smash hit Broadway musical, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. After twenty years of bliss, Georges (played by Charles Shaughnessy, star of “The Nanny” and “Days of Our Lives) and Albin, two men partnered for better-or-worse, get a bit of both when Georges’ son announces his impending marriage to the daughter of an ultra-conservative politician. Further complicating the situation, Albin and Georges run a drag nightclub in St. Tropez, where Albin is the star performer ‘Zaza.’

NSMT will end the 2012 musical subscription series with the contemporary epic love story, MISS SAIGON (November 5 – 17), directed and choreographed by Richard Stafford. From the creators of Les Misérables, this classic love story is one of the most stunning theatrical spectacles of all time. MISS SAIGON sets Puccini’s ‘Madame Butterfly’ within the turmoil of the Vietnam War where an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl fall in love, only to be separated during the fall of Saigon. Their struggles to find each other over the ensuing years is a moving testament to the human spirit as she fights to find a better life for the child he never knew he had.

In addition to the 5 show subscription series, NSMT will end the season with New England’s brightest holiday tradition, the time honored production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL (December 6 – December 22) starring Massachusetts’ longest consecutive running Scrooge, David Coffee, celebrating his 20th year in the role.
